“If this were the only path to God, would you take it?” My friend’s eyes burned with the intensity of someone who had fallen into the mouth of life and had been eaten. My memory flicked through the pages of my life. Let’s see… over the course of my life I had been poisoned, widowed through suicide, molested, betrayed, and practically died.

 “Of course,” I said.

She smiled. We had both made our choice. We had allowed the pain to undress us. And now were naked before our lives. Ready to know why we were here.

In nature, we see that everything moves towards its greater purpose. Seeds split and push through the damp of the ground. Trees weave around obstacles to reach towards the light. We are no different then any other living thing. There is something beyond our understanding that moves us towards our largest potential. The problem is that we get distracted, overwhelmed, and afraid. We struggle to hang on to who were were, who we think we should be, or what has gotten us some semblance of love in the past. Then we feel pain. Not the old kind that frees us as it leaves our body, but the dull kind that steals the passion from our hearts.

I come from a tradition of women healers that want you to remember who you are.  You are too important to drown in your self doubt. I am here to whisper in your ear or scream in your face. Whatever it takes. Right now, in this moment, this is your life happening. And you are no longer alone.
